Statement of Faith

The Bible

  • We believe that the Bible, consisting of the 66 commonly accepted books of the Old and New Testaments, is the Word of God, and not merely of man; being fully inspired by God and without error in the original texts. The Bible is living and active and at work in Believers. It is the authoritative guide and standard for mankind.  All based on the following scripture verses:

    • Psalm 119:9-16 2 Timothy 3:16-17 2 Peter 1:19-21 1 Thessalonians 2:13 Hebrews 4:12

The Trinity

  • We believe in one living, unchanging and sovereign God existing eternally in three distinct persons, each equally God; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  The Father sends the Son and the Holy Spirit, and they obey His perfect will.  Jesus Christ is God’s eternal Son, the exact imprint of His nature, sent to earth as a ransom for sin, and now reigns in heaven at the right hand of the Father. The Holy Spirit glorifies the Son, convicting the world concerning sin and revealing righteousness and truth. The Holy Spirit abides in Believers beginning at their conversion and empowers them to live godly lives.  God has revealed Himself to be perfect in love, righteous in all His ways, and Creator of all things.  All based on the following verses:

    • Genesis 1:1-3, 26 John 7:21 Colossians 1:1-17 Deuteronomy 6:4 John 16:7-14 1 Timothy 1:17 Psalm 102:26-27 Acts 2:33 Hebrews 1:2-3 Psalm 145:17 Acts 7:55 1 John 5:6-8 Matthew 28:19 Romans 8:6, 26-27 Luke 22:42 Romans 12:2

The Church

  • We believe that the Universal Church is the living Spiritual body of Christ on earth.  Christ is its head and the source of its life.  In obedience to Scripture, Believers meet together in local congregations to worship, preach the Word, and observe biblical ordinances.  They grow in love for God and each other, practice discipleship, build one another up through the practice of Spiritual gifts, and pray, all for God’s glory and their joy.  Christians are unified by the Spirit, disciplined for holiness, and commissioned by Christ to bring the gospel to all humankind both at home and abroad.  All based on the following scripture verses:

    • Matthew 28:18-20 1 Corinthians 12:7-11 Hebrews 10:25 Acts 1:8 Ephesians 1:22-23 Titus 2 Acts 2:41-42 Ephesians 2:19-22    James 4:7 Romans 12:5-8 Ephesians 4:11-16 1 Peter 1:22 1 Corinthians 1:2 Colossians 1:18

Creation and the Fall of Man

  • We believe that in six days the Triune God created the world and everything in it for the purpose of His glory. Mankind was made in the image of God, without sin.  There was no sickness and death and Adam and Eve enjoyed perfect communion with God.  Adam and Eve were tempted by Satan and deliberately disobeyed God’s command. Sin entered the world through their disobedience, resulting in death and separation from God.  Every person after them (except for Christ) is a sinner by inherited sin nature and by choice and is therefore justly under God’s wrath, condemned to eternity in hell.  All based on the following scripture verses:

    • Genesis 1-3 Psalm 19:1 Mark 9:48 Genesis 1:26-27 Ecclesiastes 7:29 Romans 5:12-19 Genesis 2:25 Matthew 25:41-46 Revelation 14:11

The Ordinances

  • We believe that Christ has committed two ordinances to the local church; baptism and the Lord’s Supper. We practice baptism of believers by immersion in water in the name of the Triune God, symbolizing the believer’s newness of life through the death and resurrection of Christ. The Lord’s Supper is observed regularly by Believers in remembrance of Christ’s death and our life in Him through the new covenant.  We believe it is set forth in scripture that a period of self-examination should precede partaking in the Lord’s Supper.

    • Matthew 28:19 Romans 6:1-11 Colossians 2:12-15 Acts 2:41-42 1 Corinthians 11:23

Redemption

  • We believe that God in His infinite wisdom and love, sent His Son, Jesus, to fulfill His plan for the redemption of mankind which was made before the creation of the world.  Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin.  In taking on flesh Jesus did not forfeit His divine nature but was both fully God and fully man.  All authority in heaven and on earth was given to Him by God.  Jesus lived a sinless life, though tempted in every way, revealing the Father through miracles and teaching.  He willingly suffered and died in our place, on a cross, bearing our punishment and appeasing the wrath of God toward us.  He was buried and, after three days He arose bodily from the dead, was seen by over 500 persons, and returned to heaven to prepare a place for us.

  • The requirements of the law are met in the punishment for sin which is satisfied before God in the death of Christ. Through Christ’s perfect obedience and atoning sacrifice God justifies and grants mercy and forgiveness to those who, through the work of the Holy Spirit, repent of their sin and by faith trust in Christ’s finished work. Christ’s righteousness is imputed (granted) by God to Believers. Upon believing, the Holy Spirit indwells the Christian, who is made completely new through the new birth and regeneration of the Holy Spirit.  From that point on we are being transformed into the image of Christ by the Spirit. Therefore, forgiveness and salvation are found in no one else but Jesus Christ. It is a free gift of God’s grace and is not dependent on our works.  All based on the following scripture verses:

    • Isaiah 7:14 John 16:7-15 Ephesians 1:4-14 Isaiah 53:5 Romans 3:21-25 Ephesians 2:3-5  Matthew 4:1-11 Romans 5:8-17 Philippians 2:5-11 Matthew 28:18 John 1:12-14 Romans 6:23 Luke 1:34-35 2 Thessalonians 2:13 Romans 8:1-17 Titus 2:13-14 Luke 24:46-47 John 10:18 1 Peter 1:18-20 2 Corinthians 3:1 1 Peter 2:21-25 John 3:3-6 2 Corinthians 5:17 2 Peter 3:9 Galatians 5:16-25 Revelation 13:8

The Return of Christ

  • We believe that at a time and hour known only to the Father, Jesus Christ will visibly descend from heaven to earth.

  • The dead will be raised, and all will be judged by Him.  Those outside of Christ He will send to eternal punishment with Satan and his host.  Those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life will inherit eternal life and will reign with Christ.  Death will be abolished, God’s glorious Kingdom will be consummated, and The Church will dwell with Him forever.  This is the hope of The Church and its encouragement for ministry.  All based on the following scripture verses:

    • Matthew 24:36 Philippians 3:20-4:1 Revelation 20:11-15 Matthew 25:31-46 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 Revelation 21 Acts 1:11    Hebrews 9:27-28 1 Corinthians 15:12-58 1 John 3:8
