Our History

Our values and endeavors have remained unchanged since 1986. Our doctrines of philosophy and practice are based on the Word of God, and they will remain so. Read below to learn more about our history.

HUMBLE BEGINNINGS IN 1986

In 1986, Ray and Jenifer Haas began Community Church with a handful of people who met regularly in a room at the local YMCA.  Today several of those original members are still here, and we consist of a healthy congregation that is continually welcoming new people into its loving family of faith.  The building where the church currently meets was remodeled largely through the eager, sacrificial service of faithful volunteers.  Yet Community Church is not about a building; it’s about people who love God and love each other.  Students from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point comprise about thirty percent of attenders.  Then, in 2006, the church purchased 6.2 acres of land about a quarter-mile from the existing facility in order to construct a new building in the future.  In some churches, the building seems to be the focus of ministry.  That’s not true here.  We build in order to send.  In our view, a building is a tool that helps us make disciples of all people to the glory of God—starting in our own community.  And the building is only a tool, nothing more.

We know that God is able to do far beyond what we could ever imagine as he works among us (Ephesians 3:20-21), and we know that Jesus is building his church (Matthew 16:18).  That’s why we’re excited as we look to the future.  We hope you join us in this adventure of joy and faith at Community Church!
