Recieving Grace Through Knowing God

Last night we went out to the square in downtown Stevens Point to share the gospel with our community. It was there that I got to meet a couple people with whom we had many wonderful conversations.

My new friend told me at one point that one of her greatest motivations right now to make good choices is her two sons. She says that she leaves their pictures in her phone and she looks at them often to remind her that she wants to make good choices.

Our conversation reminded me so much of what Peter says in his second letter to the churches. He says, "May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord." (2 Peter 1:2), He goes on to say, "His divine power has grated to us all things that pertain to life and godliness through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he as granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire." (3-4)

Similar to my friend on the square who drew strength by looking upon her two sons, Christians are to receive Grace by looking to the Lord. Peter says that in doing so we receive grace, peace, divine power and all things that pertain to life and godliness.

Oh Lord, give me a heart that looks to you consistently and intently. A heart that asks for and receives your timely and adequate grace at all times and most assuredly in my time of need. May my mouth continually testify as to the grace that I have received from you in these ways. And like my new friend, may my mind always be steadfastly upon you.

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer." Psalm 19:14
